Sorry for the total lack of posts on this blog, I’ve been massively traveling all over the place last month. First Buenos Aires, then the Florida Keys and last but not least, fucking Amarillo in Texas. Famous worldwide for its church, guns & its infamous 72 oz steak challenge. Yummy.
It’s been overall quite a ride and a very successful one… Postcards attached.
We smoked, we drank and we bled, we built windshields in the desert, barely slept and had a lot of fun.
Of course, I didn’t really have a minute for me since I came back to New-York (which I deeply missed). And now here we are, winter solstice, baby Jesus and the end of the world… Damn.

So what’s coming up next?
My recent Peter Sotos readings have inspired the upcoming Beastie Box mix.
It will be really harsh & nasty. And kinda gross too. But I think I’ll still be able to incorporate a Coil song. Maybe two. Should be online sometime next week. Got all the songs lined up, only need to tie them together which always takes more time than I originally thought. Don’t forget to browse the archives, these mixes are definitely the highlight of this blog. So by the way, if you like it, let me know, feedback is always appreciated.

Music wise, the only thing that kicked my ass for real recently is the “New Brigade” album by Ice Age, a must-have, the new Kickback sucks big time (unless you want to listen to free jazz) and Sale Freux is about to release a new album. Fuck yeah. Been kicking a lot of old-school industrial / cold-wave stuff lately. Revisiting the classics. That’s all I can think of right now…

On a last note, my friend Matthieu recently came back from a trip in Indonesia to shoot some material for his upcoming film: “At The East Of Hell”. Can’t wait to get an update from him.

Peter Sotos writes about serial-killers, child molesters, rapists, glory holes, peep shows, genocides and isn’t afraid of using the word “nigger” either.

Some refers to him as a modern Sade, although I think the boudoir of some french château is not really comparable to a stinky public toilet. The urban factor I guess.

In 1984 he published the fanzine “Pure” in praise of the most infamous killers on the face of the earth, from Ted(dy) Bundy to Heinrich Himmler. And their victims were named “cunts”, “whores” and “rats”.

This is how he introduced the project:

“In our search for extremes, we are constantly bombarded with humanist, feminist and other equally asinine diatribes that writers employ to alleviate the strain on their “conscience” or to try and seduce us into their maudlin world of false securities and self-contempt. PURE exists, then, for those who desire extremities and are tired of listening to/or acting like housepets. PURE satiates and encourages true lusts.

There is no need to convince outsiders of a philosophy, nor any reason to hide or pawn our tastes and instincts off as a moralistic examination of the “dark side of human nature”. There is no mission to force a begrudged acceptance of the “true state of the human condition.” We offer no such safeties, and monetary concerns aside, new liberal and free-thinking converts are of little use. PURE exists for those who want it.”

Sotos’ work (he wrote about 10 books exploring over and over the same obsessions) is supported by collected material published in the medias.
Articles, pictures, interviews dealing with Mr. Sotos big favorites: murders and child abuse.
It doesn’t take long to realize, also because it is so fucking brilliantly put together, the real pornography lies in the obscene way these cases are treated by the medias. And anyone, including the “victims”, pushed by their morbid curiosity and taste for glory, doesn’t worth more than the offenders themselves. There’s of course much more than this very simple, and quite commonly accepted, idea but I’ll leave that up to you.

Peter Sotos was also part of the band Whitehouse for a few years.
His literature is a punch in the guts. Don’t look for any comfort or safety here, there’s absolutely none.

This will upset you but you’ll hardly be able to take your eyes off it. Yes, the fat greek bastard owns you.

Have you ever read the awesome Sandman tales, by Neil Gaiman? Just can’t help falling asleep after a few pages these days. 10 volumes will last me 10 years. Love it.

Sandman, like a skinny Robert Smith with a little bit of Andrew Eldritch when he was singing “Dominion” in the desert. A masculine icon of some sorts, especially for those who grew up in the 80’s. But seriously, who has not?

Sandman is telling us the story of Dream. His siblings are Death, Desire, Destiny, Delirium & Despair. All born before gods were even dreamed by men.

First read it in french, now re-reading in english, it’s like watching your favorite foreign movie without bad dubbing for the first time, it’s great but you feel a little nostalgic too.

The Sandman series would go just under anything by Alan Moore. And sometimes gets just above…

As said before Lussuria just a released a fantastic LP on Hospital. Truly recommended.

Shortly before I went on my L.A trip I received on the mailbox the most amazing Slayer Mag Diaries which will be reviewed and discussed later in these pages. It is hard to think of a zine summarizing better the spirit of underground metal, if anything like that ever existed, and the book offers some of the best metal interviews you’ll ever read. I could feel my heart beating faster as I was flipping the pages. And this is a HUGE volume. “Det Som Engang Var” as one asshole once said… But I was once again amused though by some of the protagonists of the book worshipping all that is “evil” in their own cliché terms with an emphasis on war, genocide, rape, AIDS, the nazi regime and other downfalls of mankind.
When reading such funny words, that kinda started with Euronymous way back and that I also since read many times in some various interviews with various bands, I can’t help thinking that these guys should also mention christianity and therefore FULLY support it. See, christianity left thousand of corpses and shattered bodies behind. From the spanish inquisition to the recent widespread media pedophile cases, through organized theft and worldwide propaganda, this is one true “evil” that is never evoked by our so-called “evil” worshippers. Come on guys, where you at? And the question is: where do you really stand? Are you an artist or a moron? Are you really part of the consensus? Christianity is surely one big fucked up demonstration on how human beings can slaughter each other with all the rabid intensity involved when crimes are done with this quite convenient idea you’re the mere instrument of some higher power. And I can sure tell a priest is, in my own terms, more “evil” than any black metal lad… Christianity left probably more cold bodies behind through countless centuries than any war or fascistic regime. So if they do mean what they say, these guys should also mention they support and cherish christianity and even islam while we’re at it. What better “evil” can be hoped for? And that is where these dummies sound so fucking limited and retarded. They got it all wrong. I say, leave mankind behind, walk your own path. Use people if you have to, destroy people if you have to and laugh about it all. But thinking nazi germany was a great thing as well as AIDS… What the fuck? Fascination is one thing, fanaticism is another. And fanaticism has no room in free will. We all know these guys, fucking helpless romantics is what they are. I might have been one of them although I’ve never been stupid enough to think murder is a great thing. Black metal is freedom. The wind in your hair and ok, the moanings of women as you rape them as a famous cimmerian once said, I give up that one to you. But this is all fucking, desperately romantic. And this is surely where you belong. Romanticism. If you really wish the end of mankind don’t be part of a scene, be a fucking politician, politicians are way more evil than any Varg Vikernes.
I perceive “evil” as ignorance. The dark arts (to use big empty words), the left hand path and black metal are not “evil” to me. They’re good, healthy, necessary, it stands aside society common values, it is the unknown, the untouched. Masses perceive it as “evil” only because they’re afraid of it. Like the kid next door with long hair playing rock music is going to be perceived “evil” by his neighbors. Like Elvis was perceived as “evil” back in the days, shaking his ass on stage. “Evil” is good. Nazi germany is not “evil”, it is just stupid. Just like nazi germany was standing as the one and only authority (now replaced by a so-called democracy). Not sure blast-beats and shrinking guitars would’ve got a warm place in their hearts my friend. They were people stupid enough to think they could cleanse a whole country from “alien” races. How fucking stupid is that??? So these guys got it all wrong. If you want to be a supporter of true “evil”, join the army and go get kill some people, crush starving children’s jaws with a M-16 or become a CEO at Nike©, enslave young kids in China to sew fucking sneakers, fuck some cheap hookers and slap your kids in the fucking face when they’re being arrogant. Do anything but black metal because black metal is BEYOND that. It is the wind, the air, the fire and the water. All these things laying beyond good and evil. Any human feelings. Killers, rapists, dictators are all miserable, pathetic human beings. They can’t get their dicks up and are all bad artists not capable of overcoming an abusive mother or a drunk dad. This fascination is weak. As weak as christianity. And people who think WWII was good because a lot of people got wiped off the face of the earth should also then say religion is great and fully endorse it. So why the fuck do you invert crosses and spit your hate for christians? Because 1, you’re a fucking gimmick and you don’t have any fucking thing else to say, 2, you think it sucks and you’re right but you’re still part of a fucking gimmick and, buddy, yes you care. You don’t fool no one. You get offended by the stupidity of it all and so should you by any war, murder, rape… Because all these acts are dealing with fear, insecurity, weakness and in no terms power, enlightment, will and strength. See the dilemma? Praise murder equals praise weakness. Praise rape means you got a small dick. Nazis were afraid of Jews, fear all the way, depicting them with crooked noses and fingers. Just like a metal head would be described by a “normal” person. And nazis would have exterminate the shit out of you. Big time. Because you got long hair and spikes, you look more like a freak then a good patriot let me tell you. My point is black metal lies beyond good and evil and one should point the absurdity of standard “evil” as it is acknowledged by “normal” people mainly because they’re also victim of it or at least bruised by it. People are killing people. And this was happening before black metal. Being an agent of “evil” is far more developed and intellectual. Being “evil” is being your own god and master. No more no less. If you think gas chambers are “evil”, you’re wrong, they’re just stupid and so is Ted Bundy and Himmler. Now if you want to worship something stupid up to you but black metal is standing beyond that. Beyond fear, blatant racism and weakness. Do you hate niggers? Is that what you’re trying to say? Do you have a problem because you feel you’re not “home” anymore and got mugged a couple of times with your leather boots and pony-tail and you were too scared to fight back? So now you’re whining beyond a microphone the purity of the cold of the night and the snow-white mountains… Then I hope you’ll get locked in and fucked in the ass balls deep by an army of Mike Tyson because you deserve no less. Stupid. Black metal bands who are claiming their support to all wars, genocides, rapes and murders are bragging and should not be considered seriously in any way. The fact they are making good music or not is another story… Now go clean up your room.

Brothers and sisters, rejoice! The new offering from WKN temple is here! Former industrial god and presently high priest of the Infinite Church Of The Leading Hand, our beloved Reverend Sunlight Julius, is back in what shall be considered as one of his finest release. From bombastic wagnerian industrial operas to fuzzy trippy cosmic torpedoes, DB music has kept an impressive cohesion all the way, constantly expanding in its own very special universe and pushing musical boundaries super nova style. So the announcement of this unexpected, however logical, alliance with occult architects Aluk Todolo might have surprised at first but couldn’t make any more sense in regards to DB recent evolution. Aluk Todolo being undoubtedly part of the most exciting bands around at the moment there were tremendous expectations on that record and the Gods did not disappoint.
This record is a sequel to the inaugural DB/White Hills project: not your average split but a real collaboration between the two bands that basically combines best of both worlds. Even though connoisseurs will hear “who is doing what”, the alchemy totally works and I’m not going to say this is just a DB + AT kind of thing. Nope, this collaboration really bring the bands unto new territories and makes their usual sound only richer and better.
Now, I know that psychedelic and dark are the most common words you’ll probably read about this record. Personally I can’t help but finding a huge Giallo influence in it, the mix of rhythmic patterns, hypnotic bass lines, vocal samples, organ and shrinking guitars are the perfect giallo on LSD soundtrack to me. I can see the camera zooming on the black leather gloves opening the razor in slow motion as mandalas and sigils are spinning in the background… I can totally see that. And that feels really good. Maybe this record was supposed to rocket me straight to heart of the sun, instead I went down to the basement, where it stinks real bad and you can hear scratches inside the walls… Not bad either and absolutely mind fucking.
This wonderful LP has been released in limited quantity and from what I heard is almost, if not already, sold-out. It will probably be released on CD at some point so stay tuned. All praise due to the reverend!

I had only a few minutes to do a quick tour of the place but it was enough to get a good piece of dust, decay and forgotten memories, all wrapped up in a sweet nice, sepulchral silence.

I know nothing about this movie theatre, neither the locals or the internet could give me any infos, which ultimately leaves more room for imagination. Not necessarily a bad thing…
